James..sorry, dont know these names...
i traveled daily to sch from 71-76..
see my response to McVan's question!
if u have ever been to leguan..when u get off the ferry stelling..u can go right or left..like the top of a "T"
or go straight down...(so leguan roads r in "T" shape...)
i lived on the right 'arm' of the "T"
i left leguan shortly after i completed high sch (76) and visited once in a while after that.....
.... the folks i would know were ppl on this side of the island....going towards and beyond the cottage hospital
the others were either daily commuters or business folks who commuted often on the ferry....
about he cricket ground..
i know of more than one cricket ground..
most popular was one located in enterprise..ie about 5-6 mins walk from stelling..on the rt. 'arm' of "T"
the other was at maryville govt school..going on the opp side of "T"

yep..
iknow that church well...
wow!! does it still exist??
st peter's anglican chruch..had a sch in the yard as well..close to the sea-wall
when i was attending zbgss..i stayed with my oldest bro who lived in the st. opposite that church..
and on sunday afternoons..we looked at cricket matches from the back room windows..(all 4 of my bros played cricket in those days...)
my bro and his wife were teachers at st peter's anglican school (VJ's old school)
yep..us leguan-ites r known for hospitality..ask the police and hospital staff!!!!
i recall my mom taking rice, fruits, eggs, milk, coconut broom etc etc to all the 'foreign' staff memebrs at the hospital and police station..even the postmaster at the post office...the DC office...agri officer....she used topack up her donkey cart...
and i accompanied her on these trips...used to love the 'sweeties' i got as 'thank-you' gifts for the goodies!!!
and the carts??? my parent had a 'donkey' cart....their means of tranport from home to 'backdam' and to other parts of the island...
as a kid, i sat behind them in the cart..with a huge umbrella, and spent all day in t he 'backdam'..(ricefields).....
i found a nice write-up on st peter's church at http://www.landofsixpeoples.com
did u know that church was the major tourist attraction for leguan in those days???
being a dutch building..............esp for school kids..they used to enjoy climbing up the steeple to get to ring the bell in the tower....
pleasant memories..growing up in the countryside!!!

James...
when i was living in leguan...there was a hotel-restaurant named 'Golden Grain'..it was located as soon as u came off the stelling bridge..
is this what u r talking about???
the owner, then was called SEE-DEE (seedyal persaud)..his son was mentioned on this forum under 'teachers at zbgss' thread...ie matadyal ojha..he was physics and bio teacher as well as form master in 4th form
one of dyal's brother..gopie , used to own a 'rum shop' 2 villages away from enterprise..ie ( in my village..endeavour..) approx 1 mile form the cricket ground u mentioned
and that rum shop was named kabhi-Kabhi
so i dont know any restaurant called kabhi-kabhi..
but i 'm assuming they changed the name of the one in enterprise......ie after the old man died

Jane is right about "GoldenGrain" but hen Leguan isnot like it was in the good ole days!!
Now they have paved roads and electricity in the night!!
Jagdeo made sure ghey got this much.
Anyway I used tolive between the Liquor restaurant pouparly known as Kabhi Kabhi
after it was bought by Gopie from Bob Sabjar (whohad migrated to Canada) and Dud was on the other side.
So there U are.
Some folks have land lines in Leguan now but most have cell phones and Zed Mirza has the busiest and biggest shop in Eastern Leguan now in Endeavour .
Most of the old geographical landmarks are still there.
Will try my best to go there so as toget soempics for ur site.
until

Barb used to live in the Church yard opposite the cricket ground I knew Richard Mahase well. He attended Stewartville Secondary and lived in my village. Eventually he used to live at Anna Catherina. He was a radio dj. Someone told me he is currently residing somewhere in New York. Are you referring to Barbara Williams? That is only Barbara I can recall living across from Dennison cricket ground.

Yes. Her brother had that cake shop and they lived in the back. You should also know Richard B Mahase, he used to travel briefly daily on the ferry. He lived in that small concrete house in the yard where Peter used to live.

There was bahrate house, then the house where headmaster Dolphin used to live, then Captain and Sylvie house then the concrete house.

I was in the same class at S-ville school with Richard Mahase. Barbara is married to a guy from MM Zorg by the name Shabeer. She is actually in Toronto

James....i used to be a great fan of cricket..all levels..ever since i was a lil kid..went to bourda to see many, many matches..from 1 day int'l to tests...esp in the days of lloyd's and richards' captaincy..(still like it but out of touch somewhat..only read about it inthe WI papers here...
when i lived/worked in the islands..i saw a few live matches in antigua..
and others on tv...i still have the video tape when lara made that triple century..1 was in grand cayman island then...and used to tape the matches and looked at it in the nights.
i have 4 bros..all played cricket in leguan....oldest bro got his nickname ('dexter) because he bowled spin left handed and batted right handed...2nd bro was fast bowler..3rd brother was good batsman and fast bowler...he was captain of The Invaders team from Endeavour..which he 'formed'..and my youngest bro was good batsman and i think ..not sure..wicket keeper..but he also captain the primary shool team for eastern leguan sch and also the island team...
i even played bumpa ball with my bros ...and had some friednly games with the 'cork' balls too...and even the 'worn -out ' red leather balls..batted with rohan kanhai and alvin kali's bats too!!!
my 3rd bro was a real sport..he taught me how to hold a bat properly..and even how to bowl 'over-hand'
this is laang time story..in 70's
me guh tell yuh how i come to stap playing..but in a next post!
